I may not have made Myself clear, I rarely do.

Heavy or Sour Crude has a higher Sulfur content than Light Crude, better to refine it into Petrochemicals where the sulfur content doesn't matter as much, like Gasoline. The Depressing Truthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14834235515195609044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2154379100061686479.post-53878787486920762762007-11-26T19:49:00.000-08:002007-11-26T19:49:00.000-08:00Thanks Craig for your comment.3 reasons (off the t...Thanks Craig for your comment.

3 reasons (off the top of my head)why Diesel is more expensive than gasoline.

(1) EPA/Bush administration is now mandating "Low-Sulfur" Diesel..Not an original idea..Europe has mandated LS Diesel for over 10 years. Problem is, not a single refinery in North America is capable of refining LS Diesel. So what are the "Seven Sisters" doing?
Importing LS Diesel from European
refineries rather than modify US refineries..of course!(Falling value of the FRDollar doesn't help)

(2)"Market Forces"..What's the difference between Home Heating Oil and Diesel Fuel? Chemically..NO Difference! (except a coloring agent is added to Diesel to keep People from avoiding Motor Fuel Taxes by using Heating Oil as a Motor Fuel) In the Futures Market, Diesel Fuel Futures and Heating Oil Futures are "play against each other" (Google "Contango in the Oil Futures Market") BTW..Heating Oil is not mandated to be "Low-Sulfur" at the present time..but much of what is sold IS "Low-Sulfur" in order to keep "inventories interchangable".

(3)"Profit and Demand"... Limited availability of Diesel Powered Vehicles. Why is that so? If a Diesel Engine is properly designed, to allow for the increased pressures and forces in Diesel/Compression Combustion...A Diesel Engine LASTS LONGER! Detroit doesn't want to sell you a car that lasts longer.. For Pete's Sake! I personally think that if Detroit thought they could get away with it ..cars would SELF-DESTRUCT after we made our last payment.
(Research: Reliability issues with General Motors Diesel Car Engines built in the 1980's)

Here's the REAL kicker....No matter how you cut it...It is not possible, with current technology, to get as many gallons of Diesel out of a Barrel of Oil (A Barrel is 55 gallons BTW)as you can gallons of Gasoline.(Think..Diesel=Thick..Gasoline=Thin)
If the marketplace demands increased levels of Diesel, it might require refining greater quanities of Crude. The other side of the argument is the advance of Diesel/Electric Hybrids that have the potential of 100+ MPG (which is another Blog in and of itself)

As I write this at 21:55 EST 11/26/07, West Texas Intermediate is at $97.06 (http://oil-price.net)with a one year projection of $126.18. Not taking into account the falling value of the Dollar, I think the proper medical terminology is..SCREWEDThe Depressing Truthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14834235515195609044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2154379100061686479.post-85532520660586361092007-11-26T13:27:00.000-08:002007-11-26T13:27:00.000-08:00Diesel fuel is actually a better fuel than gasolin...Diesel fuel is actually a better fuel than gasoline in terms of energy per gallon and miles per gallon. So if heavy crude or sour crude yield plenty of diesel relative to the yield of gasoline, why then is diesel so blasted expensive? Is the pricing just part of the program to destroy the middle class?Craig Loweryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11346191066016028493noreply@blogger.com
